Beat the deadline to nominate local hero
- Monday, 10 September 2012 09:50
Build on the buzz of the London Olympics and Paralympic Games by nominating your own Derbyshire Dales sporting hero.
That's the plea to local people ahead of the closing deadline on Monday 17 September for this year's Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Awards.
Nominations can be made for 10 categories - and it's easier than ever to put forward someone who is making a difference in a Dales community thanks to our online form.
Paper forms can also be requested by telephoning the District Council's Sports Development Team on 01629 761225.
The District Council is especially keen to hear about disabled performers who have achieved success in their sport at a local level or beyond in the past year.
A new category in 2012 is for the best Community Sports Facility of the Year within the Derbyshire Dales.
Councillor Mrs Carol Walker, Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council's Communities Committee said:
"This year has been an overwhelming success for sport with the Olympics and Paralympics and we want local people to use this impetus to nominate their club, a team, a volunteer or a sports coach who has made a difference in the past year.
"Even top international successes start at grassroots level and we want to hear about people and organisations that engage effectively in a town or village to get people more active."
