Matlock Festival 7-9 September

Budding young dragon enthusiasts and artists are being given the chance to win a beautifully illustrated book in a fun competition run by the organisers of the Matlock Festival.

Matlock Festival in Hall Leys Park - September 7-9Supported by Derbyshire Dales District Council, the Matlock Summer Festival will be held in our Hall Leys Park from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 September and will feature the colourful World Village Market, a funfair, a programme of musical entertainment, plus face painting, storytelling and workshops for children.

The Market Square Group, together with colourful children's entertainment troupe called Off With the Fairies, are encouraging children under the age of ten to be creative and draw or paint a picture of a dragon.

The one judged the best will win the beautifully illustrated book, Dr Drake's Comprehensive Compendium of Dragonology.
Kids should write their name, age and contact telephone number on the back of the drawing before handing it in at the 'Off With the Fairies' Encampment at the festival, in Hall Leys Park, by 2pm, on Saturday September 8. The winner will be announced later that afternoon.

The Group's Paul Kennedy said:

"Our World Village Market features ethically-traded fashion, accessories, foods and unique gift ideas from across the globe.

"From colourful bags and accessories from Afghanistan to Latin American knitwear and from tasty Caribbean delights to chocolate fountains, this unique festival-style street market features an eclectic range of eco-friendly arts, crafts, clothing, accessories and tasty treats from all over the world."

The market will offer visitors a fabulous range of unusual gift ideas including hand printed and hand embroidered textile products from India, silk scarves, silver and amber jewellery, Balinese handicrafts and wind mobiles, plus stained and fused glass home wares.

A programme of live music is planned including local singer/songwriter Josh Kemp (Friday), classical violinist Andrew Hubbard (Friday and Sunday) and close harmony girl group Tripliquette (Saturday).

Off with the Fairies will provide storytelling, face painting and magical workshops throughout the three day event.
