With the momentum of the amazing profile for sport created by the London Olympics, local people are being urged to nominate someone for the Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Awards in 2012.
Nominations are open now for 10 categories - and it's easier than ever to put forward someone who is making a difference in a Dales community thanks to our online form. Paper forms can also be requested by telephoning the District Council's Sports Development Team on 01629 761225.
The District Council is especially keen to hear about disabled performers who have achieved success in their sport at a local level or beyond in the past year.
A new category in 2012 is for the best Community Sports Facility of the Year within the Derbyshire Dales.
District Council Leisure Officer Les Warren said:
"We are looking for projects that have attracted new people to sport in the local community in the past year. This could be a new building, a coaching scheme or an innovative idea for getting people more physically active. The project must be up and running and delivering and should have been in place after September 2011."
Closing date for nominations is Monday 10 September and the District Council is planning a presentation for the winners and runners-up in mid October.
Chairman of the District Council's Communities Committee, Councillor Mrs Carol Walker said:
"The Sports Awards are a highlight of the year in the Dales and help to celebrate all the people who have achieved success and helped to make sport important and worthwhile in the community. We need nominations from all walks of life, sports clubs, parish councils, schools, leagues, coaches, parents and from athletes themselves."
