She has now presented £2,717 cheques to each of the groups after organising fund-raising events and representing the District Council at more than 200 functions during the past year.

Lay Reader at All Saints Church, Pat Bryant said:

"The Parish Church is very grateful for the hard work Judith put into raising funds during her year as Chairman of the District. The money is desperately needed to help fund the vital maintenance projects currently ongoing in the church."

Mrs Twigg, who is also a county councillor, was Chairman of the District previously in 1992 and, as a former Mayor of Bakewell on three occasions, she has now held a chain of office five times.

She said:

"I relished the opportunity to promote the Derbyshire Dales during my year as Chairman of the District and I was absolutely determined also to do something positive for two hard-working local groups that are close to my heart and do so much for the local community."

Councillor Tony Millward, from Ashbourne, took over as Chairman of the District at the start of the 2012/13 civic year.
