New contract for Dales recycling sites
- Tuesday, 24 July 2012 08:39
Derbyshire Dales residents are advised to expect some disruption as a new contractor takes over recycling containers at over 80 sites across the district.
Called 'bring' sites, these recycling areas are generally found in car parks and at places such as supermarkets.
Derbyshire Dales District Council is working with new contractor H W Martin to ensure the most appropriate number of containers is allocated to each site and that collection frequencies are adequate.
During the roll out programme, which has been happening over the past three weeks, an initial supply of containers was delivered to each site while a needs assessment took place.
A District Council spokesman said:
This is a big project and we are conscious that in some cases sites have needed more containers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to people who have not been able to recycle at these sites.
The good news is this situation is now being addressed. The containers are being emptied daily and while we are delighted that local people are recycling more, we are appealing to them to be patient during the transition period.
If a site is full we're asking residents not to leave their recycling by the containers as this encourages others to do the same and means the site starts to look messy. If possible, please find a nearby alternative recycling site or use the household recycling centres at Northwood near Darley Dale and Ashbourne.
If the material you want to recycle is not plastic - for example newspaper, glass or cans - these can be recycled at home.
The way the sites work has been simplified and improved, with mixed dry recycling - glass, cans, cartons, plastic, cardboard, aerosols and foil trays - being collected in the same 1100 litre container. Paper is collected on its own in a separate bin.
