Gold medallist to visit Arc

There's plenty happening at Derbyshire Dales District Council's ever-popular Arc Leisure Matlock, with the appearance of a Commonwealth Games gold medallist in June.

Sarah PriceStar swimmer Sarah Price will be at the landmark £12 million Arc on 25 June after it was chosen as one of only four centres nationwide to pilot the new Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) SwimFit programme.

Plus Arc has teamed up with the official suppliers of fitness equipment to the Olympic GB team and the centre is launching a new Jog Derbyshire group from 19 June.

The new Swimfit sessions start on Monday 25 June 7-8pm and Thursday 28 June 6-7pm, running on Monday and Thursday evenings for five weeks.  The ten sessions are being offered for the amazing price of £10 - that's just £1 per session.  Places are limited so swimmers are asked to book early on 01629 581 322 or email arcleisurematlock@derbyshiredales.gov.uk

The sessions are FREE to Active Leisure Plus and Swimming Pass holders.

Arc Leisure Centre - main poolAlong with Arc staff, ASA representatives will for be on hand at the launch of the pilot project at 7pm on Monday 25 June, along with Sarah Price, who set the 200 metres backstroke world record in 2001 and won two gold medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council's Communities Committee, Councillor Mrs Carol Walker said:

"Arc Leisure Matlock continues to be astonishingly successful, with 285,000 visits to date. Launching this pilot programme is another feather in our cap and a credit to our enthusiastic leisure team.

"Being chosen by an organisation such as the Amateur Swimming Association to test this type of new fitness programme raises the profile of Arc even more and also helps us to maintain the Derbyshire Dales' status as one of the healthiest places to live in the region."

Teaming up with Technogym

Arc Leisure Matlock has also teamed up with Technogym, the official supplier of fitness equipment to the London 2012 Olympics and Para Olympics, and the supplier to Arc Leisure Matlock's state-of-the-art fitness suite.

Arc and Technogym are promoting a national campaign - the challenge is to offer to all customers the opportunity to pledge to do something positive and active supporting "The Greatest Team".

Arc Leisure Matlock has registered as a community hub to inspire everyone who uses the centre to get active and create a legacy for all local communities, helping to maintain the Derbyshire Dales' status as one of the healthiest in the region.

Jog Derbyshire

The new Jog Derbyshire group starts on Tuesday 19 June at Arc Leisure Matlock. The beginners' group will meet at 6.15pm.
