Civic chairman's charity auction

The Chairman of the District of Derbyshire Dales, Councillor Steve Flitter raised more than £2,100 at a Charity Auction in aid of the local Air Ambulance Service, held at the Town Hall, Matlock, on Monday 9 October.

More than 50 Lots – many donated by local businesses – ranged from books, games, football match tickets, local meals out, paragliding and champagne to sailing, a Chatsworth membership, a car MOT, jewellery, a round of golf and family tickets to local attractions.

Councillor Flitter, pictured above with his wife Ann, said:

“I am extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to the auction and delighted that this event engaged local businesses and residents in working together for a great cause.”

The auction in the Council Chamber at Matlock Town Hall was preceded by a fund-raising afternoon tea attended by several fellow civic leaders.

About the role of civic chairman

The Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales is elected at the annual meeting of the council and serves for a civic year.

The Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales wears a ceremonial chain of office at official engagements and generally represents the District Council at around 100 functions throughout the year, organising special fund-raising events for nominated charities.

The role of Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales is different from that of Chairman of the District Council, which is a more strategic leadership role.
