The Chairman of the District of Derbyshire Dales 2017/18, Councillor Steve Flitter, resurrected the council's Community Awards.
The Awards reward people in the Derbyshire Dales who deserve recognition for the work that they do in their local community - for example, as the driving force behind a local organisation or an individual who goes out of their way to help others or improve local facilities or the environment.
The people we want to hear about are those who “make the wheels go round”, without previous recognition of their efforts or expectation of reward.
Nominations for the 2017/18 awards are now closed and here are the recipients.
A link to enable you to nominate a local resident for the 2018/19 Community Awards will appear here soon.
About the role of civic chairman
The Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales is elected at the annual meeting of the council and serves for a civic year.
The Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales wears a ceremonial chain of office at official engagements and generally represents the District Council at around 100 functions throughout the year, organising special fund-raising events for nominated charities.
The role of Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales is different from that of Chairman of the District Council, which is a more strategic leadership role.
