This includes the hand and mechanical sweeping of highways, pavements and public open spaces such as car parks and Markets to remove litter and detritus The removal of weeds from the highway and removal of dog faeces from pavements and verges. Street Cleansing also incorporates the sweeping of Autumn leaves to maintain safety and reduce the risk of flooding.

Verge moving is undertaken as part of an agency agreement with Derbyshire County Council. Verges within 30mph limit zones are normally cut six times a year. Outside the urban areas, flail mowing is carried out on many roads. The frequency of flail moving is once or twice a year and is determined by Derbyshire County Council. The purpose of mowing is to maintain highway safety.

Waste which is illegally dumped and reported to us will normally be removed within one day of reporting.

Our officers and Focsa (the Street Cleansing contractors) are continually looking for improvements in the scheduling of operations and in cleaning procedures. Our inspectors check that works are carried out and assess the level of cleanliness of the district streets and highways. Continuous improvement has been evident in key performance indicators over several years.
We also work closely with parish and town councils to ensure that good standards are being met throughout the district.
