What is it?
Nordic Walking is a form of physical activity, natural walking is enhanced by the addition of the active use of a pair of specifically designed Nordic Walking poles.
New Free Nordic Walking in Whitworth Park, Darley Dale
Beginners and Wellbeing sessions (30 - 45 mins)
Tuesdays from 1.15pm.
Fridays from 10.30am
Fitness sessions (60 - 90 mins)
Tuesdays from 2.00pm.
Fridays from 11.15am and 2:00pm
A Wellbeing session will last 30 – 45 minutes and is for anyone who hasn't tried Nordic Walking before. These sessions are at a gentle pace and also recommended for walkers with medical conditions or those recovering from injury. Once competent with Nordic Walking poles you may well progress to the fitness sessions.
A Fitness session will last 60 – 90 minutes and is for anyone looking to improve on their general fitness levels and has a basic level of competency in Nordic Walking.
Meet outside the Whitworth Centre Café, park in the free Whitworth Centre Car Park off the A6.
‘Lifefit’ and the Whitworth Centre in partnership with Derbyshire Dales Walking for Health scheme have started free Nordic Walking in April in Whitworth Park with trained International Nordic Walking Federation Instructors Phil and Nicole.
Nordic Walking poles are freely available during the sessions and can be booked out at other times. Nordic Walking has proven benefits for many health conditions including Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia, Diabetes, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Parkinsons, Pulmonary Disease, and Menopause etc. It can work at a very basic level for Assisted walking right up to higher levels of fitness walking.
