Good health and promoting the outstanding beauty of the Derbyshire Dales were the themes adopted by Mrs Walker as she represented the District Council at scores of functions and set about hitting her fund raising target.

"Health and beauty in our communities was the theme of my civic year and I wanted to build on the Derbyshire Dales' official status as one of the healthiest places to live in the whole of England.

"It gave me enormous pleasure to present cheques to four charities that do so much to maintain and enhance that status, saving lives and, in the case of the Riding for the Disabled, providing amazing support for all age groups and a broad range of disabilities."
