Five60 is an exciting new programme that Derbyshire Dales District Council is delivering across all Derbyshire Dales primary schools over the next three years.
The programme aims to promote and encourage an active healthy lifestyle and increase children's knowledge of the benefits of healthy eating and exercise through curriculum based practical sessions in a school setting.
Objectives of the Five60 programme are;
- Increase confidence by encouraging pupil involvement in group activities
- Increase participation in physical activity through group activities
- Improve knowledge on the importance of good nutrition as part of a balanced diet
- Support children to make informed choices about their lifestyle and diet
Sudbury Primary School were the very first school in the Dales to receive Five60 and it was met with an excellent response from everyone who took part. Pam Purdon, Headteacher at the time said:
"The programme was excellent, Derbyshire Dales coaches led the Five60 programme with patience and skill and soon got to know the children and adapted the delivery to suit their needs".
Norbury Church of England Primary School who have also participated in Five60 and Headteacher Margaret Shermer said:
"Dales coaches who delivered the programme were thoroughly prepared and the resources were well organised" Margaret also went on to say "The delivery was always high quality and age appropriate".
Five60 has been commissioned to Derbyshire Dales District Council to deliver by NHS Derbyshire County and is linked to the national Change 4 Life initiative.
Five60 is also supported by Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership.
