Houses in Multiple Occupation (HIMO)

The requirement for certain larger houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) to be licensed by local authorities was introduced by Part 2 of the Housing Act 2004.

Licensing of houses in multiple occupation is a statutory function of the local authority. An inspection of the property will be carried out by a member of the Council's Environmental Health Team.

The  current fee for this registration in £442:50 (this fee is outside the scope of VAT). Licences generally remain in force for a period of 5 years.
