Demolition & dangerous structures

Derbyshire Dales District Council deal with both dangerous structures and demolitions.

Any person intending demolishing a building with a cubic capacity in excess of 50 cubic metres must notify our Building Control Section.

The Building Control Section will acknowledge the person carrying out the proposed demolition by return notice and where necessary attach conditions in respect of the demolition work.

Dangerous structures

Building control will respond to all notified dangerous structures to assess the stability of the structure and any associated threat to the public.

The Local Authority have the power to remove the danger.  In case of an immediate danger attempts will be made to contact the owner before any necessary measures to remove the danger are undertaken.

Types of dangerous structures include:

  • Dangerous Buildings
  • Walls
  • Chimneys
  • Loose tiles / glazing
