Step out for the Derbyshire Dales first Sport Relief Mile

5 March 2010

The Derbyshire Dales’ first Sport Relief Mile takes place on Sunday 21 March – and already 100 local people are in the running to make the event a big winner.
This Derbyshire Dales jogging group, led by the District Council’s Josh Moody – a running champion in his own right – are pictured training for the 21 March Derbyshire Dales Sport Relief Mile

Organised by Derbyshire Dales District Council, the event costs only £5 to enter for adults, £2 for under-16s and £12 for a family of two adults and two children.

The Sport Relief Mile takes place at the District Council’s Ashbourne Recreation Ground on Sunday 21 March. Participants can choose how far they go – one, three, or six miles – whichever is a challenge.

Warm up sessions start at 12 noon ahead of the first run at 1pm.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Community and Environment Committee, Councillor Mrs Janet Goodison said: “We really want people from across the Derbyshire Dales to take part in this fun event.  Healthy lifestyles are one of the District Council's top priorities, so I am really pleased we are holding this event that not only helps people get fit but also raises money for Comic Relief.  And where better than Ashbourne and its beautiful surroundings to do this?

“Runners must make sure they get sponsored to raise money to make a world of difference to people living unimaginably tough lives.”

All the money raised will be spent by Comic Relief to help poor and vulnerable people, both at home and overseas.
