A NEW jogging group has been launched in Ashbourne by Derbyshire Dales District Council to encourage local people to take up a new activity that is easy to get into and doesn’t cost a lot.

Already the enthusiastic joggers have an event in their sights – the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile that takes place at the District Council’s Ashbourne Recreation Ground on Sunday 21 March.

The group is pictured at the District Council’s Ashbourne Leisure Centre with jog leader Josh Moody, who is a running champion in his own right.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Community and Environment Committee, Councillor Mrs Janet Goodison said: “The new jogging group is going tremendously well and is great value at just £1 per session.

“Organising this group and the Sport Relief Mile in Ashbourne are innovations that underline how the District Council is listening to local people and understands what matters to them. We are extremely proud of the Derbyshire Dales’ reputation as one of the healthiest places to live in the UK.”

Warm up sessions at the 21 March event start at 12 noon. Enter online at www.sportrelief.com for only £5 adults (16 and over), £2 child and £12 family (two adults, two children).

Runners must make sure they get sponsored to raise money to make a world of difference to people living unimaginably tough lives.
