Alcohol and entertainment licences

We have been responsible for granting licences to permit the sale/supply of alcohol, the provision of regulated entertainment and the provision of late night refreshment since 2005, when the Licensing Act 2003 introduced changes to the existing legislation.

In general, licences are required for any of the following activities (although there are some exemptions):

  • Retail sale or supply of alcohol
  • Performance of dance/dancing
  • Provision of live music
  • Provision of facilities for music and/or dancing
  • Performance of a play
  • Exhibition of a film
  • Indoor sporting event
  • Boxing or wrestling events (indoor or outdoor)
  • Supply of hot food and drink after 11pm and before 5am
There are different types of authorisations, depending on the type/size of premises and event. These include:
  • Premises Licences
  • Club Premises Certificate
  • Temporary Event Notice
  • Personal Licence
