Matlock Live

Matlock Live consists of a group of local professional and community arts organisations and individuals from the Matlock area who are committed to extending and building an interest in the visual and performing arts.
Fire And Ice

Their purpose is to encourage local arts organisations and individuals to work together throughout the year and to work towards a summer festival period . The Festival involves performances, concerts and visual arts exhibitions.

They aim to raise the profile of the arts throughout the community, inspiring the involvement and interest of people of all ages and abilities, through the provision of workshops, performances, exhibitions and a range of other live events.

They aim to draw in an entirely new audience and create a fresh and exciting profile for arts activities in the area. Matlock Live celebrates the quality and diversity of the arts in and around Matlock, with activities for all age groups.
   
Art forms: Multi-genre festival, covering all art forms: applied and visual arts, crafts, music (classical, sacred, traditional, musical theatre (Gilbert & Sullivan), rock, young bands), contemporary and traditional dance, drama and literature

Type of work:  They support and coordinate individual organisers of performances, exhibitions and workshops in any of the above, as well as organising some events of their own.

Aims:
Matlock Live aims to:

  • Enable participation in live arts for all age groups.
  • Develop the infrastructure of the local arts scene.
  • Enable a cross fertilisation of ideas, resources and people involved in the arts from both within and from outside the area.

The members of Matlock Live achieve this by supporting one another and networking together throughout the year, to stage the Matlock Live ‘Festivities’ in the Summer.

Clientele:  They operate an inclusive of all policy as far as possible. They actively endeavour to make available as wide a spectrum of arts activity as possible.

Geographic area:  They cover Matlock and the surrounding area that is the catchment of Highfields Secondary School. This includes Winster, Darley Dale, Cromford, Lea, Holloway and Whatstandwell. 

Structure:  They are a Voluntary Management Committee whose membership is representative of professional and voluntary or community groups and individuals involved in the arts.

Participation: They support participation in all its many forms, whether in a workshop or as a member of an audience.

Charges:  Charges vary from free of charge upwards. The individual organisers set charges as appropriate.

Method of booking: This depends on the organisers of the events. Usually via telephone or email, with individual organisers. These contacts are given in the Matlock Live programme and on the web site, which links to organiser’s own sites if appropriate.
