The Recreation Ground provides fun and enjoyment for people of all ages. It is set in 5.25 hectares of land, and has great outdoor sporting facilities.
Fringing the town centre, the Recreation Ground is easily accessible from Bakewell's car parks, including the large car park on the other side of the River Wye (footbridge access) at the District Council's Agricultural Business Centre (ABC). The Wye runs alongside the Recreation Ground, making it a beautiful place for a walk.

The children's play area provides a place for children to play in safety. Exciting new dry play equipment was installed as part of a comprehensive upgrade in the summer of 2009 that included new interactive splash pads.
After listening to what residents and especially young people said was needed in the town, Derbyshire Dales District Council secured £200,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to create new play areas both in Bakewell and at Ashbourne's Recreation Ground and Memorial Gardens, and invested a further £170,000 into the projects.
The Multi Use Games area was also recently upgraded and now features facilities for five-a-side football and tennis. Two croquet lawns are used by Bakewell Croquet Club - call Peter Blackburn on 01433 630200 or email email@example.com.
The Recreation Ground also features a cricket pitch, which is used by Bakewell Cricket Club.
The main toilets in Bakewell are situated in the town centre on Granby Road opposite the police station. These include baby changing facilities and disabled toilets refurbished in the summer of 2011. There are also toilets in the park and at the Agricultural Business Centre.
The park is just a few minutes' walk away from the town centre of Bakewell, so you can buy sandwiches and drinks and have a picnic in the summer. Make sure you throw all waste in the bins provided, and help Derbyshire Dales District Council maintain this beautiful park.
Enjoy the District Council's Bakewell Swimming Pool and Bath Gardens. Bakewell also boasts one of the largest farmers' markets in the whole of the UK, generally taking place on the last Saturday of the month at the District Council's Agricultural Business Centre.
Also within Derbyshire Dales District Council's control are major parks at Hall Leys, Matlock, and Ashbourne Recreation Ground. Each caters for a range of sporting and recreational activities, as well as providing formal children's play areas, with splash pads.
Location of the park
There are numerous entrances to the park from Haddon Road (A6). You can also access the park from Granby Croft and Riverside Crescent. There is a convenient entrance to the park via a bridge across the River Wye from the Agricultural Business Centre car park.
