Legal advice on housing matters

Direct Help & Advice (DHA), formerly known as Derbyshire Housing Aid, have a Legal Aid contract to deliver legal advice on housing matters in the Derbyshire Dales area. They are a long standing not-for-profit charity, established in 1995.

DHA logoDHA are able to provide free specialist advice and assistance with the following:

  • Serious disrepair
  • Defending possession proceedings
  • Tenants living in unsuitable accommodation
  • Unlawful evictions
  • Homelessness and the prevention of homelessness

DHA also provide the Housing Possession Scheme at Derby County Court, which enables people to obtain specialist advice and representation at Court on the day of their possession hearing.

The advice is free of charge (subject to clients bringing evidence of their income and successful completion by DHA of a means assessment).

Alternatively please refer any constituents with a housing related matter on to our Head Office in Derby, who can confirm an appointment at the Matlock Citizens' Advice Bureau, based at Derbyshire Dales District Council's Matlock Town Hall headquarters on Bank Road, where DHA have a weekly presence on Monday afternoons.
