Parks and open spaces

We are responsible for the upkeep of over 76 hectares of parks, gardens and recreational open space throughout the Derbyshire Dales.

Within our control are the three major parks of

  • Hall Leys, Matlock,
  • Haddon Road Recreation Ground, Bakewell
  • Cokayne Avenue Recreation Ground, Ashbourne.

Each caters for a range of sporting and recreational activities, as well as providing formal children's play areas, with chlorinated paddling pools close by. A privately operated miniature railway and boating lake are located on Hall Leys Park, which are in use throughout the summer months.

In addition to the many recreational open spaces, the Council also manages formal gardens within the market town of Bakewell and picturesque grounds at High Tor and Derwent Gardens, Matlock Bath.
