Bulky waste

What items of bulky waste will be collected?

The District Council will collect most bulky household waste items, including three piece suites, cupboard units, tables, carpets, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bookcases, kitchen units, microwaves, cookers, stereos, televisions, dining tables and chairs, barbecues, garden furniture and all electrical white goods (e.g. fridges and washers).

What items cannot be collected?

  • Domestic waste either loose or bagged (please use your grey bin)
  • Sheds
  • Large mirrored items
  • Oil drums, petrol cans
  • Batteries
  • Wire fencing

How do I arrange a collection?

Contact the Waste Helpline on 01629 761 122. Firstly, the items you want to dispose of will be vetted (questionnaire completed over the telephone) to see if they are in a suitable condition to be reused. If your item is reusable you will be asked to contact one of the reuse companies (British Heart Foundation or Encore Re-Use). If your item is not reusable a collection will be arranged.

How much does it cost?

Charges vary depending on the type of items that you want to dispose of and the number of items you have.

Are any discounts available?

A 50% concession is available for anyone over the age of 65 years who is in receipt of either Housing or Council Tax benefit.
