How to pay your Council Tax

There are a number of ways that you can pay your Council Tax

Direct Debit

This is the most convenient way to pay for both the customer and the council and is the only payment method to give you a choice of payment dates of either the first, tenth or twenty-fifth of the month, in addition to annually, half-yearly and quarterly. If you have already signed a Direct Debit Instruction you need take no further action. If you would like to pay by Direct Debit, please contact us on 01629 761222 and you can set up a Direct Debit Instruction quickly and easily over the phone.

Post Office and Paypoint

The council will no longer take payments of Council Tax at the Town Hall or other area offices. All Council Tax payers not on Direct Debit should pay their bill at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet in the UK using the Allpay payment network. All new bills have a barcode printed on them that will be scanned at the payment outlet to ensure the payment is allocated to your Council Tax account.

The Post Office will accept payments made by cash, cheque or debit card (cheques should be made payable to Post Office Ltd). PayPoint outlets will accept payments by cash. All charges for using this service will be paid by the Council.

Telephone

Payments can be made using most debit and credit cards (excluding Diners Club and American Express) over the telephone. Call 01629 761295.

Online

If you have a debit card or credit card then you can pay your bill online. All you need to do is visit the online payments page and follow the instructions. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
