Community Consultation

Involving local people and our partners is central to the work of the District Council.  Policies have a more lasting impact and services are more responsive to local need if influenced by those they directly affect.

The District Council's Consultation and Engagement Strategy 2010-2014 sets out our commitment to work with local residents, service users, businesses, partners and other stakeholders to ensure the District Council's priorities match those they identify.  The strategy places particular emphasis on partnership working and on engaging with 'harder to reach' groups such as older and younger people or people with disabilities.

Our objectives

The strategy has three main objectives:

  • to improve the performance of District Council services.
  • to develop and evaluate the District Council's policies, services and projects.
  • to inform the prioritisation of resources available to the District Council.

These objectives provide the focus for our consultation and engagement activities.

A copy of the strategy is available below together with our corporate consultation and engagement plan for 2010/11.  Also included is a guide to consultation and engagement activity.
