Area Community Forums – March 2010
The District Council regularly stages consultation events at which residents can express their views and the next series of Area Community Forums will take place in Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne in March.
YouTube appeal by District Council
The Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council has made a YouTube video urging local people to have their say at the Forums.
Councillor Lewis Rose OBE wants more people to take the opportunity to talk about what they get from the District Council at their very own ‘Question Time’.
Presentations will include Derbyshire County Council’s Young People’s Services and Derbyshire police on challenges faced in the coming year.
“The YouTube video explains the format of the Forums and stresses that as councillors we want to listen to what local people have to say,” said Cllr Rose.
“Our aim is to make these forums as accessible as possible – that’s why we made the explanatory short web video. The Forums are attended not only by councillors and senior officers from Derbyshire Dales District Council, but also by representatives from Derbyshire Constabulary, the Fire Service, Derbyshire County Council and the Peak Park. This makes them a really useful one-stop shop for residents to talk to public services.
“If anyone has a point to make, a suggestion to offer or a question to ask about local services, I urge them to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The YouTube video can be accessed at YouTube.com/derbyshiredalesdc and is also available at derbyshiredales.gov.uk, where people who can’t attend in person can have their say online.
Derbyshire Dales District Council will be talking about changes in the way the government allocates money for building new homes and regenerating communities. Councils are being asked to put all housing and regeneration issues into a new Investment Plan, one of which is currently being prepared for the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak. Attending a Forum will give local people the chance to have their say on the Investment Plan priorities.
A representative from Young People’s Services at Derbyshire County Council will provide information on how young people in the Dales can voice their needs and find out about future projects and positive activities locally. She will also discuss how engaging with young people influences the services and activities available.
There will be a presentation too on how the Derbyshire Children’s Trust is improving its services for children and families. One of its new initiatives, the Co-Location Project, brings services together at secondary school sites, and the Matlock forum will focus on an example at Wirksworth’s Anthony Gell School.
The Forums will take place on:
· Monday 8 March, 7 pm - Agricultural Business Centre, Bakewell
· Monday 15 March, 7 pm – Town Hall, Matlock
· Monday 22 March, 7 pm – St Oswald’s Church Hall, Ashbourne

November 2009
Area Community Forums were held in November when residents were invited to have their say on what they get from Derbyshire Dales District Council.
A presentation was given on council plans and priorities for the year which included results of the Autumn Citizens’ Panel which indicated that participators wanted the council to spend more on tackling crime and disorder and less on subsidising special events.
There was an opportunity to ask questions during a general Question Time session. In Bakewell (16 November), issues raised included media attendance at council meetings, healthy lifestyles, waste management, parking and markets in Bakewell, the county’s police budget and public rights of ways.
The future of Wirskworth Fire Station, social care services and parking at Matlock train station were matters raised at the Forum in Wirksworth on 23 November. At the Forum held in Wyaston (30 November), topics high on the agenda included speed limits in Ednaston, Brailsford and Cubley, support for the local economy, pavements in Ashbourne and preparations for adverse weather conditions.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service gave a presentation on its service planning for the next three years and Derbyshire County Council showed a DVD, ‘Making Care Personal : Your Choice, Your Life’ which shows the way in which social care services for adults is being transformed.
