Local people to have say on local transport

3,000 households in rural parts of South Derbyshire and Derbyshire Dales are to get a chance to have their say on the future of transport in their area.

Derbyshire County Council, along with Derbyshire Dales District Council and South Derbyshire District Council are looking at how transport affects people's lives. They are looking at how people get to jobs, post offices, village halls, leisure centres, health centres and hospitals. And at all types of transport, buses, taxis, voluntary car schemes, cycling and walking. From left to right, Mark Tyack (Ashbourne Community Transport), Brian Lucas (Derbyshire County Council), Lewis Rose (Derbyshire Dales District Council) and Rebecca Pennyfather (Derbyshire County Council)

A survey is to be posted to all households in Rodsley, Marston Montgomery, Cubley, Yeaveley, Longford, Hollington, Norbury, Dalbury Lees, Radbourne, Trusley, Thurvaston, Sutton on the Hill, Church Broughton and Foston.

Councillor Brian Lucas, cabinet member for environmental services for Derbyshire County Council said: "I'd like to encourage all residents to fill in their questionnaire and send it back to us. We really want to know what people think of local transport and how we could make it better."

Councillor Lewis Rose, leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, said: "Public transport can be a lifeline for rural communities. It is very important that residents take part in this study and help us understand the needs of the communities and how we can help improve community life in the years ahead."

Those surveys returned will be entered into a prize draw with one resident winning £50.
