Residents in the Derbyshire Dales village of Kirk Ireton are celebrating after scooping £94,000 of Lottery money in a TV vote off.
The tiny village, which has a population of 450, beat a project in Leicestershire to a share of the People's Millions, and bid organisers will now see their dream of a safe community sport and play area become a reality.
Organisers had spent weeks trying to drum up support for the Kirk Ireton School Field Eco PLOT project, but the decision on which project got the cash rested on a phone vote held on Monday.
A two-minute film about the project was broadcast on ITV's Central News on Monday night, and people across Derbyshire were urged to call in and vote on that day.
On Tuesday evening it was announced that Kirk Ireton was the winner, with Lisa Foden from ITV's Central News travelling to the Derbyshire village to present a cheque for £94,000.
Kirk Ireton Primary School headteacher Peter Johnston and teacher Helen Cammiss were accompanied by children from the village who will benefit from the project.
Helen told Central News: "It will make a tremendous difference. We have never had a nice place to meet up and go and play sport."
Peter added: "We have always been keen to give the children outstanding sporting opportunities and now we are going to have the facilities to back it up."
Organisers now say they can't wait to get started on the project, and have sent their heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted.
The new all-weather play area will be sited on the village field behind Kirk Ireton Primary School.
It will also have a new pavilion for the local community to use as well as for the school children to get changed in. Improved access to the field for pushchairs, wheelchairs and for those with impaired mobility is also planned as part of the development.
