Healthy Lifestyles in the Dales

Nearly 40% of adults in Derbyshire Dales are exercising at the level needed to improve their health. Four in ten people are exercising for 30 minutes or more at least three times a week, and at least one in ten is exercising five times or more each week.

The healthy figures have emerged from the annual Citizens Panel survey carried out in each district in Derbyshire.

The figures are encouraging for Derbyshire Dales District Council, which has made the three times thirty a week a target in the Council’s Leisure Services Plan.

“Last year a higher percentage of adults were exercising at least three times a week in Derbyshire Dales than elsewhere in Derbyshire. This year, even more people are physically active, which leads to healthier lifestyles and less sickness. Sport and physical activity play an important part in people’s quality of life.” Said Les Warren, the District Council’s Leisure Officer.

In addition to the levels of physical activity, the survey also found that over 9% of adults were regularly giving up their time helping to organise sport on a voluntary basis, and over 30% were members of a sports club.
