Entry forms are now available for Derbyshire Dales District Council's Annual Sports Awards 2008. The Awards celebrate and reward people who are making a significant contribution to sport, whether as a performer, coach or administrator.

There are fourteen categories which include individual, club, team and disabled awards, as well as a special category for school sport.

“These awards go a long way to saying well done and thank you to those people who are making an outstanding effort to improve their sports performance, or somebody else’s performance, especially as a volunteer. This will be a great boost to sport in Derbyshire Dales”, said Councillor Andrew Lewer, Chairman of the District Council's Community and Environment Committee.

Details and nomination forms have been sent to sports clubs and schools in the Dales, and are available either from the District Council’s website, derbyshiredales.gov.uk or by contacting Leisure Services on 01629 761225.

An Awards Evening will be held in the Autumn when the winners will be presented with their award.

Winners from the Derbyshire Dales Sports Awards are entered in the Derbyshire Sports Awards which link to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The deadline for nominations is 22 August 2008.
