It's Official! - Dales is safe place to live

New figures show the Derbyshire Dales is one of the safest places to live in England.

With only 27 crimes recorded for every 1,000 residents, crime levels are the lowest in Derbyshire. Dales residents are also the least likely in England to suffer a robbery or vehicle theft.

“One of our priorities is to help people to stay safe and we work closely with the police and other agencies to achieve that aim,” said District Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose, OBE.

One of the initiatives that continues to help householders across the district is the Handy Van The HandyVan Servicescheme, which offers home fire safety, security and energy efficiency checks for vulnerable and older residents.

Launched in 2005, Handy Van is free to people over 60 and those referred because they are vulnerable or at risk.

PC John Riley, Crime Reduction Officer for the Derbyshire Dales, said: “Our area is a very safe place to live but I encourage any residents who would like that extra bit of reassurance to take up the opportunity the Handy Van offers.”
