Smokefree legislation is now in force. From 1st July 2007, England implemented the Health Act 2006, which made virtually all indoor public places and work places smokefree, including work vehicles. Smoking is not be allowed in pubs, private members clubs, offices, shops, factories, restaurants and taxis - in fact in any enclosed space where people are working.
It follows the successful implementation of smokefree legislation in several countries including Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. For guidance on how it will affect your business see the Derbyshire Action on Smoking website.
The legislation is designed to protect workers and members of the Public from the serious health risks of second hand smoke. As a result, people working in bars, restaurants, pubs and other workplaces will enjoy breathing fresh air.
If you have any queries or wish to report a problem relating to smoking in a public place, contact the Environment Hotline on 01629 761212 or E-mail healthpromotion@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
