One of the best places in Britain to live, work and visit.

Health Education

The environment we live and work in, our social networks, sense of security, socio-economic circumstances and the facilities and resources in our local neighbourhood affect our experience of health. It is acknowledged that there are unacceptable differences in peoples’ experiences of health between different areas and also between different groups of people within the same area.  Derbyshire Dales District Council looks to work with local communities, businesses, other health organisations and voluntary groups to tackle local health issues and to narrow any inequalities that exist.  Our aim is to make a difference to the opportunities for both adults and children in the area to encourage wherever possible a healthier lifestyle choice.

The Local Government Act 2000 gives Derbyshire Dales District Council the power to promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of the area.  We use this power to add value to our statutory services to improve health.

Many other health related services are provided by the primary care trust(PCT) operating in our District:  Derbyshire County PCT.  In addition many health promotion activities are co-ordinated by the North Derbyshire Health Promotion Service.

Social Services are provided by Derbyshire County Council, who may be contacted on 01629 580000.
