Top Rated Refuse Questions

Can a larger rubbish bin be provided?
In certain situations, such as large families of five or more permanently living at a property or families with a baby using disposable nappies, households will be provided with a larger household rubbish bin on request.  Please contact us on the Environment Hotline 01629 761215 or email environmenthotline@derbyshiredales.gov.uk and we can send out the appropriate forms for completion.

How do I keep my wheeled bins clean?
You can place a newspaper at the bottom of your wheeled bin after it has been emptied. You can also use carrier bags or kitchen bin liners in the household rubbish bin. However, you cannot use these in the garden waste bin so just wash it out with water and detergent when necessary.

Who will determine where I put my bins for collection?
Most properties will be straightforward and you will be expected to put your bins at the edge of your property nearest the road. However, some properties will have particular problems that need addressing. Our inspectors will be happy to discuss this with you.  Please contact us on the Environment Hotline 01629 761215 or email environmenthotline@derbyshiredales.gov.uk

What if I am unable to move the wheeled bins?
Don’t worry, we can provide an Assisted Collection if you are in genuine need of assistance and have no one else in the household that can help. We can arrange for the bins to be collected and returned to the agreed storage point.  Please contact us on the Environment Hotline 01629 761215 or email environmenthotline@derbyshiredales.gov.uk and we can send out the appropriate form for completion.

What size are the wheeled bins?
The standard Garden Waste Bin is:
Height 107cm, Width 58cm, Depth 74cm

The standard Household Rubbish Bin is:

Height 107cm, Width 50cm, Depth 55cm

My refuse or green waste was stuck inside my wheeled bin after my last collection.
Line your wheeled bin with newspaper or a flattened cardboard box to ensure the waste can be easily tipped out on collection day. Try not to compact and squash your waste into the wheeled bin too tightly as this prevents it from emptying properly. If your waste is stuck inside your wheeled bin and it has not emptied please loosen it before your next collection day.

For help or advice call the Environment Hotline on 01629 761215.
