In February 2006 schools in the Derbyshire Dales District Council area were invitied to enter a competition to design a magnet on the theme of "Watch your waste" and "Reduce, Re-use, Recycle". The winning entry was chosen by Councillor Janet Goodison Chair of the District Council's Community and Environment Committee. The chosen image showing the full cycle of composting was designed by Grace at Pilsley C of E Primary School and has been manufactured into fridge magnets available at events for residents. The idea behind the magnets is to use them to hold your recycling and refuse calendar to your fridge, stick it on your metal bin or on a radiator as a reminder to "Watch Your Waste" every day.
The entries were of a very high standard and below are some of the entries which really impressed us!
